WASHIGHTONG HEIGHTS INVITATIONAL

The Washington Heights Invitational. The WHI is the first of its kind in Washington Heights.

Five years ago Jaybie’s Sports Academy, a 501©3 non-profit organization dedicated to providing recreational sports activities for New York City youth began hosting an Annual Basketball Invitational.

Each year the tournament grows & in 2018 hosted 5 divisions, 60 teams & 700 players. Over the 8 weeks WHIBBALL occupies Highbridge Park the tournament attracts thousands of local spectators & is expected to be even bigger in 2020!

CARLOS GUZMAN

Whibball is founded by father-son duo: carlos & luis guzman.
The father-son duo are passionate about their community & have a track record to prove it. Their charity, jaybie’s sports academy founded in 2003 has provided washington heights youth with a fun, healthy & safe environment for athletics & mentorship through baseball & basketball.

JOSE VALDEZ​

Over the last 20 years Jose Valdez has become an expert in developing youth skills for leaderships by creating opportunities for socialization and friendships in a safe, fun environments. His Passion has helped educate the youths throughout the Washington Heights Community. Jose demonstrates great sportsmanship and expertise in organizing tournaments and leagues, and manages events.                

COME JOIN US, AWAKEN YOUR PLAYING BASKETBALL

Jaybie has developed collaborations and liaisons, with several local and state colleges. The youths will attend campus tours and games; meet with college advisors and in order to expose to real college experiences.

DEDICATION AND COMMITMENT

Volunteers mentor youths by assisting with academics, tutoring, and character building. Sports leagues (basketball, baseball, martial arts, soccer) emphasize discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Practices occur weekly, requiring commitment. 

Academic support is provided, including progress tracking through report cards and tutoring to improve grades, with referrals to more formal programs if necessary.
